Community Involved Tourism in Pa-O Region

Khun Tun Oo has been working in the tourism industry in Shan State for more than two decades. He initiated the establishment of the Golden Island Cottages Travel & Tour (GICT&T) Team in 2007. He is one of the helmsmen of the GICT&T. More interestingly, Community Involved Tourism in Pa-O Region (CITPAR) in 2015 was a turning point in his professional career. He cooperated with crucial stakeholders such as INGOs, NGOs, local communities, and so on, in implementing the CITPAR in the eastern part of Inle Regions. As a pioneer of CBT in the local communities, it was not an easy task to achieve in drawing the full picture of CBT and thus, significant efforts and cooperation were invested vastly by all means within his capacity. As a result, CITPAR was selected for the Socially Responsible Award 2017-2018 at the IBT Berlin, the Best Community Involved Tourism of the year 2017 by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism Myanmar, and Certified ASEAN Community Based Tourism Standard 2017 – 2019. Consquently, he was chosen for the Social Excellence Award (Third Tire) in 2018-2019 by the Shan State Government. All in all, he has been contributing to the Tourism Industry not only in Shan State and for the Pa-O community but also to the nation as a whole.
